The OOW 249 Patrol allows customization at the Unit level with the ability to use standard M4 buttstocks and commercial bipods and vertical grips, all while reducing weight over standard infantry models. While weighing almost 2.3 lb less than the standard model, the addition of the collapsible buttstock also brings the weight closer to the operator, allowing easy off-hand (standing) accurate fire. OOW’s patented Select Fire Trigger Assembly is a standard feature on this model.

The OOW249 is one of the most popular belt-fed, air-cooled, fully automatic light machine guns currently deployed by US and international forces. Since the invasion of Panama in 1989, the 249 has proven itself in every major US conflict. When developed, the SAW was found to be the most effective candidate to address the need for more firepower in small units. The OOW249 provides infantry fire teams machine gun volumes of firepower at a weight and accuracy nearing that of a rifle. It fires the NATO standard 5.56mm cartridge from a belt or magazine.
